FIRE SAFETY AND EDUCATION
|

The mission
of the Community Affairs (CA) section is to save lives,
property, and the environment through education, training,
and awareness campaigns The CA section’s public education
program includes the following programs for individuals,
businesses, and community participation: Health and Safety
Fairs, Fire and Life Safety, Atlanta Smoke Alarm Program,
Juvenile Fire Setter, Teacher Fire Marshal Workshop, Day
Care Providers, Fire Safety House, Fire Education Award
Luncheon, Evacuation Training, and Fire Drills

Fire
Education Award Luncheon
A program
designed to recognize individuals, institutions, agencies
and businesses for participation and or achievement in the
area of public safety education during the prior year. |
Fire
Safety House
An
educational RV trailer designed as a small home. This is
used to teach children and adults about fire safety and
prevention in a controlled environment. With simulated smoke
conditions students are taught to get low and get out
safely. |

Day Care Providers Workshops
Targeted to
businesses that provide day care services, the workshops
provide participants with knowledge about fire safety
practices in a manner that allows them to exercise good fire
safety habits and instruct children in the subject. |
Teacher
Fire Marshal Workshop
Provides
students that will serve as junior fire marshals and
teachers that serve as fire marshals for their schools with
a review of and new information on fire prevention
practices. |

Fire Cadet Program
A program
that gives high school students some skills towards becoming
a firefighter after graduation. Skills include but not
limited to first aid, CPR, and fire science. These skills
are learned in the fire stations and classroom setting.
Students attend school for the first half of their school
day and participate in the Fire Cadet Program for the second
half of the day. |
Juvenile Fire Setter
A National
Fire Safety Program, established through the National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA), targets juveniles that have
started fires. The purpose is to work with individual
juveniles to identify and eliminate the problem that led to
the individual being placed in the Juvenile Fire Setter
program. |

Fire and Life
Safety Symposiums
Done
in conjunction with the Fire Prevention Division components,
programming is scheduled for the entire month of October.
Four (4) weekends of activities that feature the CA programs
offered provides individuals and businesses with an
opportunity to see and experience the wide range of programs
offered by the AFRD. |
Health and Safety Fairs
Are
structured to provide individuals and community
participation health and safety information dissemination.
Many of the fairs make available screening for blood
pressure and diabetes. Car seats and smoke detectors are
distributed to individuals. The CA section participates in,
helps organize and sponsors Health and Safety Fairs. |
